Lenten Studies Program 2010
St Peter’s Anglican Parish, Fredericton
In Search of Christian Community
Group Discussion of Primary texts
(handed out each week) on the topic of Christian Community
Feb 21: 2:30 - 3:30 Session I
New Testament Texts on Christian Community: How
did the early Christians live in community? What hints and
examples of community do we find in the New
Testament, especially the Acts of the Apostles’?
Feb 28: 2:30-3:30 Session II
Arguably the most successful, yet most maligned
form of Christian community is monasticism. This week we
begin examining selections from the Rule of St
Benedict. What, if anything, can we learn for these texts that might help
us in our times and point a way forward amid
our present confusions?
March 7: 2:30-3:30 Session III
We continue examining the Rule of St Benedict. Why
the stress on obedience? On humility? Why separate the sexes?
Is Christian community possible with private
property?
March 14: 2:30-3:30 Session IV
What new expressions and attempts at Christian
community exist in Anglicanism? What does the Prayer Book envision for
Christians living in community? What of Little Gidding? Of Pilsdon? Iona?
What vision of Christian Community is projected in the BAS?
Why has there been such an emphasis on Christian
Community since the 1960s?
All sessions are one hour in length and commence at 2:30 p.m. Coffee and
light snacks will be served. Sessions will be held in St Peter's Parish Hall
2385 Woodstock Road. If in doubt of a session being held due to weather
